Hertsmere Borough Council has published its draft budget, which is now open for public consultation.

This year’s budget is built on something Hertsmere has not had for a long time: real financial certainty.

By securing a stronger, multi-year funding settlement, the Council has been able to move beyond short-term firefighting and focus on investment. That means not just balancing the books, but making clear, deliberate choices about where additional resources can make the biggest difference to residents’ day-to-day lives.

The draft budget includes:

  • Additional Community Engagement Officers, strengthening the Council’s ability to work directly with residents and local groups

  • Expanded street cleaning teams, helping to keep neighbourhoods cleaner and better maintained

  • Increased Ward Improvement funding, giving councillors more flexibility to support priorities identified by their communities

  • Continued investment in Hertsmere’s creative and cultural sector, recognising its importance to the local economy and community wellbeing

This is what financial stability is for: turning certainty into cleaner streets, stronger neighbourhoods, visible local improvements, and sustained support for culture and creativity.

The draft budget is now out for consultation, and residents are encouraged to have their say before final decisions are taken.
