Commenting on the announcement of Sky/Comcast plans to open a 32 acre studio complex in Borehamwood bringing 2000 new jobs to the area (and £3billion production investment to the UK), the Leader of Hertsmere Borough Council’s Labour and Opposition Group said:

“We wholeheartedly welcome this huge boost for both Borehamwood and our Borough.  The Sky/Comcast complex, together with our public asset, Elstree Film Studios, the BBC Elstree Centre and of course Elstree UTC will firmly establish Borehamwood as a cutting edge hi-tech centre for film, TV and creative talent. ”

“Borehamwood used to be known as Britain’s Hollywood. This is a huge step towards reviving that status in a 21st century guise. ””We pay tribute to Hertsmere’s officers led by the Council’s interim MD Sajida Bijle, her predecessor as Hertsmere’s chief executive officer, Donald Graham – who made a huge contribution to this outcome – and Roger Morris, managing director of Elstree Studios for his role.”

As Hertsmere’s main opposition group, all the Labour Councillors are looking forward to working with the Sky/Comcast team to ensure the final plans that reach the Council’s planning committee are sensitive to the views and aspirations of local residents, businesses and the entire community. They are all confident that the proposals will be welcomed.
