As Hertsmere Borough Council raise the flag to mark the onset of Armed Forces Day, Hertsmere Labour Group Leader, Cllr Jeremy Newmark, has called for the Borough to offer free leisure facilities to all veterans and serving personnel.

He said: “Having spoken to veterans I’m aware that outside of today and Remembrance Sunday, their needs are often overlooked. I wanted to suggest something practical, straightforward and inexpensive which would fulfill their needs as well as sending a clear message that we value their contribution.”

Many other local authorities already offer similar schemes and it’s hoped that Hertsmere will follow suit.
