After a scathing response from local residents who were recently consulted on conservative run hertsmere borough councils local plan, council Leader Morris Bright, without even properly analysing or publishing the responses, has binned his local plan. Local residents in hertsmere worked so hard during the consultation period to generate an uprising of replies, as the Conservative ruling group refused to hold any in person events, outsourcing the consultation to a London based PR company. Our group held 25 in person events, Liberal Democrat’s hosted further events and local residents groups met weekly to drive responses.

Conservative run Hertsmere Borough Council have now left Hertsmere vulnerable to have its decisions left entirely to central government. Hertsmere is now completely at the peril of greedy developers which bankroll the conservative group through a dodgy business club attended by MP Oliver Dowden and more.

What a shambles, what a waste of money, and we now see local tories conducting a victory parade over Facebook claiming that they have seen sense and saved the green belt. What an insult to local residents- pretending that they listened when they in fact ignored you every step of the way. If there isn’t a plan ready by the end of 2022 that focuses on delivering the infrastructure we need whilst finding a more realistic and balanced plan for genuinely affordable housing, Labour will be ready to step in and work on a local plan that actually works for local residents.
